Advocate December 1770.Son of Alexander Maconochie of Meadowbank and Isabella Allan; m. Elizabeth Welwood; Sheriff of Renfrew 1788; Lord Ordinary 1796; Lord Justiciary 1804. Professor of Public Law, Edin., 1779-1796. Co-founder of the Speculative Society.
