Service. Infeftment. As to the entry of an heir cum beneficio inventarii, see Beneficium Inventarii. For the changes introduced in the completion of titles under the Act 21 and 22 Vict., cap. 76, see the article Titles to Land.
Entry of a Purchaser. The entry of the purchaser of an heritable subject, like the entry of an heir, is completed by infeftment, either proceeding on the warrant of the seller's superior, or recognised and confirmed by him. But as this subject has been fully considered in other articles, it is unnecessary here to do more than merely to refer to them.

| Brenton v. Liddell | 1796 | Justices of Peace, Apprentice, Statute, Suspension, Expenses, Service | Captain Brenton sought to justify his detention of the apprentice John Donaldson against suspender Liddell, maintaining that Liddell had failed to comply with statutory conditions for reclaiming the boy. Liddell responded that Donaldson had not been lawfully enrolled under the 1795 act, as no written notification of disqualification had been delivered prior to the apprentice’s entry on board ship. The dispute turned on the validity of the enrollment and the statutory prerequisites for reclaiming an apprentice. |
| Maxwell v. Buchanan | 1775 | Damages, Aliment, Arrestment, Interlocutor, Service, Creditor | Archibald Buchanan, defender, agreed to be an apprentice to Stephen Maxwell, pursuer. An indenture between the two men specified the penalties that Buchanan would pay if he missed work; it also required Maxwell to pay Buchanan a stipend for board. Several years into the indenture, Maxwell accused Buchanan of theft and had him jailed. Buchanan was released on bail and never brought to trial. He then sought either to return to work or to be free of the indenture. Maxwell refused to receive him and raised an action for the contractual penalties, as well as for damages relating to Buchanan’s failure to complete the indenture. |
