Eldest son of Robert Ainslie of Darnchester, Berwickshire; m. (1799) Jane Cunningham and (1837) Isabella Munro. Apprentice to Samuel Mitchelson; W.S. 9th July 1789. Wrote A Father's Gift to his Children, among others. Lifelong friend of Robert Burns.
