Illegitimate son of Colonel Sir Adolphus Oughton and Frances Dickenson; m. Frances Bagot and Mary Dalrymble. Began his military service in 1737; took surname Oughton in 1741. commander-in-chief, north Britain 1778. Freemason and antiquarian.
